“Missouri Dominates Athens and Unleashes New Star Player in Week 2 of Collegiate Chess League Fall Season”

The University of Missouri made a strong statement in the second week of the 2024 Collegiate Chess League Fall (CCL) by delivering a crushing 14-2 victory over Athens. The debut of their new strongest player, GM Aryan Tari, added to the team’s dominance on the board. With impressive 4/4 scores from GMs Mikhail Antipov and Luka Budisavjlevic, Missouri bounced back from their week one loss to Virginia and reclaimed their status as premiership favorites.

In another match of the day, the giant-killing Virginia team faced a tough challenge against a stacked Yale outfit and were defeated 12-4. GM Nicholas Checa capitalized on the rating gap between him and Virginia’s board one, scoring a perfect 4/4.

The action continues with week three of the CCL on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at 2 p.m. ET/20:00 CET/0:30 a.m. IST. Missouri and Yale are set to clash in what promises to be an exciting matchup, while Virginia will look to bounce back against the University of Technology Rio Grande.

The Collegiate Chess League is the premier online chess competition for college students, featuring a $25,000 prize fund. Stay tuned for more updates on the intense battles happening on the chessboard.
