GM Daniel Naroditsky Wins Tournament of the Accused Organized by Hikaru Nakamura

GM Daniel Naroditsky emerged victorious in the Tournament of the Accused, organized by runner-up GM Hikaru Nakamura and sponsored by streaming platform Kick.com. The event featured players who had been “accused” of interesting play by GM Vladimir Kramnik. Naroditsky, Nakamura, and Peruvian GM Jose Martinez were the top three seeded players who advanced to the final phase after a nine-round Swiss tournament.

In the final phase, Naroditsky dominated, finishing equal first with Nakamura in the first round-robin, second in the second round-robin, and first in the third round-robin, which featured live eval bars. Notably, Naroditsky defeated Nakamura in all three games. The overall final standings saw Naroditsky take home the top prize of $3,000, followed by Nakamura with $2,000 and Benjamin Bok with $1,000.

The tournament provided a unique twist with players being able to observe live eval bars during the games. This feature added a new dynamic to the competition, with players adjusting their strategies based on the real-time evaluations. Dutch GM Benjamin Bok praised the event for its innovative format and the impact of the eval bars on the players’ decision-making process.

The Tournament of the Accused showcased high-level chess and innovative gameplay, with Naroditsky emerging as the deserving champion. The event took place on December 9, 2024, on Chess.com, with a total prize fund of $8,500 provided by Kick.com. Players who streamed on Kick were eligible for full prize winnings, while those who did not stream on the platform received a reduced prize amount.
