The Indian chess team made a strong statement in the ongoing Chess Olympiad in Budapest by dominating their opponents in the first round of the tournament. The Indian men’s team defeated Morocco with a resounding 4-0 victory, while the women’s team secured a 3.5-0.5 win against Jamaica.
In the absence of Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali led the charge for the Indian women’s team with a win on the top board. Meanwhile, Praggnanandhaa showcased his skills on the top board for the men’s team, putting his opponent Mohamed Tissir under immense pressure from the start. Despite Tissir’s experience as an International Master, he was no match for the young Indian prodigy and eventually lost on time.
The rest of the Indian team followed suit with victories on the other boards, with Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, and Harikrishna Pentala securing wins to give India a perfect start in the tournament.
