Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa Settles for Draw Again in Superbet Classic Tournament

Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa yet again squandered a promising position to settle for a draw against American Wesley in the fifth round of the Superbet Classic tournament in Bucharest, Romania. None of the five boards produced any decisive results, keeping the lead positions unchanged.

Fabiano Caruana of the United States maintained his lead with 3.5 points, half a point ahead of world championship challenger D Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa. The French duo of Alireza Firouzja and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia, and Wesley share the third spot with 2.5 points each.

Local hopeful Deac Bogdan-Daniel remains at the bottom with 1.5 points. Gukesh also missed an advantage against Abdusattorov, while Vachier-Lagrave held Caruana to a draw.

Praggnanandhaa, known for his accurate calculation and tactics, has been struggling to convert advantageous positions into wins in this tournament. Despite being inspired by the presence of Garry Kasparov, he missed key opportunities against Wesley.

Caruana showcased his opening expertise against Vachier-Lagrave, resulting in a draw. The tournament offers a prize pool of USD 350,000.

The sixth round of the tournament will take place on Tuesday after a rest day on Monday. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting chess event.
