Excitement Builds for the XV Pan-American U7-U17 Chess Championship in El Salvador

Playa Salinitas, Sonsonate, El Salvador – The Confederation of Chess for Americas (CCA) and the Salvadoran Chess Federation (FSA) are thrilled to announce that the XV Pan-American U7-U17 Chess Championship will take place from May 11 to May 18, 2026, at the picturesque Hotel Royal Decameron Salinitas. This prestigious event promises to bring together young chess prodigies from across the Americas, showcasing their skills in a competitive yet friendly environment.

Tournament Structure and Categories

The championship will feature 12 sections, divided into Open and Girls categories for each age group: Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, and Under 17. Players’ eligibility is determined by their age as of January 1, 2026, ensuring a fair competition among peers.

  • Under 7: Players born on or after January 1, 2019
  • Under 9: Players born on or after January 1, 2017
  • Under 11: Players born on or after January 1, 2015
  • Under 13: Players born on or after January 1, 2013
  • Under 15: Players born on or after January 1, 2011
  • Under 17: Players born on or after January 1, 2009

Each category will consist of a nine-round Swiss System tournament, with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one. Direct titles will be awarded in accordance with FIDE regulations, adding an extra layer of prestige to this exciting event.

Accommodations and Registration

To ensure a seamless experience, all participants are required to stay at the official event hotel, the Royal Decameron Salinitas, booked through US Chess. The hotel offers a comprehensive package for a seven-night stay, including meals from dinner on May 11 to breakfast on May 18.

  • Single Room: $1050
  • Double Room: $735/person
  • Triple Room: $690/person
  • Children under 12: $420/child

Participants must complete their registration by March 20, 2026, to secure their spot. The registration process includes a tournament fee of $160, along with additional costs for accommodation and transportation.

Special Recognition for Official Players

Notably, players who earned gold medals at previous events will be recognized as Official Players for this championship. This includes standout talents like Aayansh Guntaka and Darren Wu, who have already made their mark in the chess community.

All players will be required to sign a waiver before their participation is confirmed. The USA State Department’s travel advisory website provides up-to-date information for travelers heading to El Salvador, ensuring that all participants can travel safely and confidently.
