GM Kateryna Lagno’s stunning victory in the 2025 Monaco FIDE Women’s Grand Prix has left the chess world in awe. After defeating GM Elisabeth Paehtz in a thrilling match, Lagno expressed her delight, saying “it’s been a long time since I played such a beautiful game.” Lagno’s win propelled her to the sole lead in the tournament, with the remaining games ending in draws.

The highlight of the round was GM Aleksandra Goryachkina’s 93-move battle against GM Tan Zhongyi, which ultimately ended in a draw. IM Sara Khadem also had a near miss, squandering a significant advantage against IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul.
