Lancashire Cricket Celebrates Handover of Farington Site, Aiming for Future Growth
Farington, Lancashire – Lancashire Cricket has officially taken control of its new Farington site, marking a significant milestone in the club’s journey towards establishing a second home for cricket in the region. The handover from Eric Wright Construction comes just over two years after construction began in November 2023, with club officials and representatives from Lancashire County Council gathering to commemorate the occasion.
The new facility, developed in collaboration with Lancashire County Council, is designed to unite elite and community cricket under one roof. It has been designated as a women’s centre of excellence for the North West, reinforcing Lancashire Cricket’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of cricketers, both male and female.
The state-of-the-art complex features two cricket ovals. The professional oval is set to host competitive matches for both men’s and women’s teams, while the second oval will cater to community, recreational, and youth cricket. A central pavilion has been constructed between the ovals, offering four changing rooms, fitness facilities, and training nets to support players’ development.
Looking ahead, Lancashire Cricket has ambitious plans to host two men’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup matches at Farington during the 2026 season, pending further preparations.
Dame Sarah Storey, Interim Chair of Lancashire Cricket, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This is another landmark day for this historic project. The Club officially takes control of Farington following the handover from our partners at Eric Wright Construction. Reaching this stage is a huge moment for Lancashire Cricket and reflects years of planning and collaboration alongside Lancashire County Council and the ECB.”
The completion of the Farington site is not just a win for Lancashire Cricket but also a significant step forward for cricket in the North West, promising to enhance the sport’s profile and accessibility in the region.
As the club prepares to welcome players and fans to its new home, the excitement surrounding this development is palpable, with hopes that it will foster a vibrant cricketing community for years to come.
