Javokhir Sindarov Unfazed by Preparation Leak Amidst Dominance in Candidates Tournament

Tashkent, Uzbekistan – As the chess world watches with bated breath, Uzbek Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov is not just leading the ongoing Candidates Tournament but also demonstrating an impressive level of composure in the face of controversy. Following the leak of his preparation for the 2025 Chess World Cup, which he won to qualify for the Candidates, Sindarov has remained remarkably nonchalant.

After eight rounds of intense competition, the 20-year-old prodigy holds a commanding two-point lead over renowned players Fabiano Caruana and Anish Giri. His performance has positioned him as a formidable challenger to reigning world champion D Gukesh.

However, the tranquility of Sindarov’s ascent was briefly disrupted when users on Reddit uncovered his Lichess account, revealing his opening strategies from the World Cup. When asked about the leak after a recent draw in the Candidates, Sindarov expressed surprise but little concern.

“I was shocked to know that my preparations were not private,” he admitted. “But I don’t care much about it; it was a long time ago.” Sindarov explained that he had been unaware of the public nature of his Lichess Study until a fellow player alerted him during the World Cup. “I was checking some lines before a round when I got the message. Since then, I’ve been more careful,” he added with a grin.

His relaxed attitude has drawn praise from chess commentators. Judit Polgar, a legendary figure in the chess community, lauded Sindarov’s response, calling it a “champion’s attitude.” “Whatever happens, happens. We go with the flow and we get the best out of what we have,” she remarked during a live commentary session.

Co-commentator David Howell echoed her sentiments, stating, “Very impressive attitude. I would be freaking out and a bit tilted if this had happened to me.”

As Sindarov continues to dominate the Candidates, his ability to remain unfazed by external pressures may very well be a key factor in his quest for the championship. With the chess world eagerly anticipating the next rounds, one thing is clear: Javokhir Sindarov is not just a rising star; he’s a player to watch.
