Javokhir Sindarov’s Preferred Venue for 2026 World Chess Championship Against D Gukesh Revealed
Javokhir Sindarov Eyes Warm Destination for 2026 World Chess Championship Against D. Gukesh
In an exciting development for chess enthusiasts, FIDE has officially opened the bidding process for hosting the highly anticipated 2026 World Chess Championship match between reigning champion Dommaraju Gukesh and challenger Javokhir Sindarov. The announcement, made on Monday, has sparked interest and speculation about where this historic clash will take place.
Sindarov, who secured his spot in the championship by triumphing in the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament, expressed a clear preference for the match’s location. When asked about his ideal venue, he stated, “It would be in December. Personally, I would choose some hot country like Cyprus because I don’t want to play a world championship match in cold weather. For me, it doesn’t matter, but if I have a choice, probably this is it.”
The official bidding process invites countries and organizers to submit proposals for hosting rights, with FIDE encouraging fans to weigh in on their preferred locations. The championship is provisionally scheduled to run from November 23 to December 17, 2026, lasting approximately 25 days.
FIDE has set an estimated budget of USD 8.5 million (around ₹80 crore) for the event, with a minimum prize fund of USD 2.5 million (around ₹23 crore). This championship is poised to make history as both Gukesh and Sindarov will be just 20 years old at the time of their showdown, marking it as the youngest-ever World Championship match.
Gukesh, who made headlines by becoming the youngest world champion in chess history at just 18 years old after defeating Ding Liren in 2024, will face a formidable opponent in Sindarov, who has demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the Candidates Tournament.
As the chess community eagerly awaits the match, the question remains: where will this monumental clash unfold? Fans are encouraged to share their thoughts on potential venues, adding to the excitement surrounding this historic event.
