Spotlight on Team Spain: A Look at the Players Representing the Country at the 45th Chess Olympiad

The 45th Chess Olympiad is set to take place in Budapest, Hungary from September 10-23, and one team that is sure to make a mark is Spain. With a rich history in the game of chess, Spain has produced top talent for centuries.

The Spanish team, led by Grandmaster David Antón Guijarro, is ready to showcase their skills at the Olympiad. Antón, known as “El Niño” or “The Kid”, is a fierce player with a standard rating of 2669. Alongside him are other top players such as GM Alexei Shirov, GM Francisco Vallejo Pons, GM Alan Pichot, and GM Jaime Santos.

The Spanish Women’s team is also a force to be reckoned with, led by IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh. With players like IM Sabrina Vega, IM Ana Matnadze, IM Marta Garcia, and WGM Monica Calzetta, the women’s team is ranked 8th in the initial rankings, showing their strength in the competition.
