Chennai, June 8, 2026 – The investigation into the recent theft of hard disks and other computer components from the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) headquarters has taken a significant turn. The case, initially under the jurisdiction of the Greater Chennai Police, has now been transferred to the Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) due to its sensitive nature, as confirmed by Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal.

Sources within the police department indicated that the decision to escalate the investigation was made to ensure a thorough and specialized approach to the case, which involves critical data and potential security implications. The theft, which has raised concerns about data security and operational integrity, is currently under active investigation by the CB-CID.

YouTuber Maridhas Arrested for Derogatory Remarks

In a separate incident, popular YouTuber Maridhas was arrested in Madurai by a special team from the Chennai Cyber Crime Wing. The arrest stems from allegations of posting “derogatory and obscene” remarks about a woman minister in Tamil Nadu on social media platforms.

The police reported that Maridhas had been under scrutiny for his videos and posts targeting various ministers, including members of the ruling party led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Following his arrest, he was transported back to Chennai for further questioning.
