Four Days of Chess in Peru’s Capital: The World Record Chess Marathon

Lima, Peru – The vibrant city of Lima is set to become the epicenter of the chess world as it hosts the highly anticipated World Record Chess Marathon from June 25 to 28. This open chess festival invites players of all ages and nationalities to engage in four thrilling days of competition, featuring eight ranked tournaments and elite simultaneous exhibitions.

The event promises to be a chess lover’s paradise, with FIDE-rated blitz and rapid tournaments that will challenge even the most seasoned players. A Grand Prix encompassing all eight events will offer an impressive $18,500 in overall prizes, making it a must-attend for aspiring champions and seasoned veterans alike.

One of the highlights of the marathon is the opportunity for South American female players to earn a Wild Card to the prestigious WR Women’s Chess Tour Americas stage, taking place in Punta Cana from June 30 to July 3. This unique chance adds an extra layer of excitement to the rapid tournaments, as competitors vie for both glory and opportunity.

Participants will also have the chance to explore innovative strategies, such as the Neo-London System, which presents creative possibilities to challenge opponents right from the opening moves.

Event Schedule:

• June 25: Kick-off with Fausti vs. Jospem at 14:00, followed by Bughouse #1 at 17:30, and an overnight Blitz #1 starting at 23:00.
• June 26: Rapid #1 at 10:00, Bughouse #2 at 17:30, and another overnight Blitz #2 at 23:00.
• June 27: Rapid #2 at 10:00, Bughouse #3 at 17:30, and Blitz #3 overnight starting at 23:00.
• June 28: The event culminates with a closing ceremony and prize-giving.
