Promoting Mental Wellness: TSC Urges Teachers to Prioritize Self-Care

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is urging educators to prioritize their mental wellness, recognizing the importance of taking care of their mental health. TSC Commissioner Timon Oyucho emphasized the need for teachers to practice self-care and take breaks to relax and recharge, highlighting the positive impact it can have on their overall well-being.

During a wellness event in Kisumu, Oyucho encouraged teachers to participate in recreational activities like tug-of-war, soccer, and chess to relieve stress and enhance their mental wellness. The event saw hundreds of teachers engaging in these activities, promoting a supportive and healthy professional environment.

Leaders and organizations also showed their support for mental health initiatives, with Nyakach MP Asuma Owuir establishing a trauma center to support GBV victims and accident survivors within his constituency. The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairperson, George Opiyo, announced that the wellness event would be held regularly to continue fostering a healthier work environment for educators.

This collaborative effort reflects a growing recognition of mental health challenges within the teaching community and the importance of providing supportive resources and events to uplift teachers and promote a balanced life. The TSC’s emphasis on mental wellness serves as a reminder for educators to prioritize their well-being and seek help when needed.
