Titled Tuesday Unveils Record-Breaking $10,000 Weekly Prize Fund Starting June 2!

Titled Tuesday Unveils Record-Breaking $10,000 Weekly Prize Fund

Chess.com’s beloved Titled Tuesday is set to elevate the stakes for online chess enthusiasts starting June 2, 2024, with an unprecedented weekly prize fund of $10,000. This exciting development will push the annual total to over $500,000, more than tripling the current purse and promising to make this weekly event even more thrilling for players and fans alike.

Since its inception in 2014, Titled Tuesday has become a cornerstone of the online chess calendar, attracting elite players and passionate fans from around the globe. Each Tuesday, chess titans such as Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Javokhir Sindarov gather to engage in fast-paced blitz matches, providing a unique opportunity for aspiring players to compete against the world’s best.

Hikaru Nakamura, a prominent figure in the chess community, expressed his excitement on Twitter, stating, “Back to Titled Tuesdays – my favorite tournament!” His enthusiasm reflects the sentiment shared by many in the chess world as they anticipate the upcoming changes.

Chess.com’s Chief Chess Officer, IM Danny Rensch, emphasized the platform’s commitment to fair play and rewarding talent. “When we launched Titled Tuesday, we aimed to provide exceptional events and prize funds for all titled players. Today, we are doubling down on both!” Rensch noted, highlighting the enhanced security measures in place to ensure fair competition.

The revamped prize structure is designed to reward not just the top finishers but also a broader range of participants. Of the $10,000 weekly prize fund, $7,500 will be allocated to the top 10 players, with the first-place winner taking home a staggering $2,500. The remaining $2,500 will be distributed through various bonus prizes, ensuring that more players have the chance to earn rewards.

Prize Breakdown:

  • 1st Place: $2,500
  • 2nd Place: $1,500
  • 3rd Place: $1,000
  • 4th Place: $700
  • 5th-6th Place: $400
  • 7th-10th Place: $250 each

In addition to the main prizes, the bonus categories include awards for the top woman, senior, youth (U16), girl (U16), non-GM, and non-IM players, as well as special recognitions for the best debut, perfect score, most brilliant move, and best game. Streamers will also have the chance to win additional prizes, further enriching the competitive landscape.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the new format is the Perfect Score Bounty, which starts at $250 and rolls over each week if no player achieves a flawless 11/11 score. This adds an exciting layer of suspense, as only four players have ever managed to finish with a perfect score in the tournament’s history.

Chess.com’s Events Commissioner, Michael Brancato, expressed his enthusiasm for the changes, stating, “Titled Tuesday is the most exciting weekly tradition in chess, and we are thrilled to recognize that with a $10,000 weekly prize fund. We’re not only rewarding the top finishers but also creating more opportunities for titled players across the field to compete for meaningful prizes.”

As the chess community gears up for this new era of Titled Tuesday, fans and players alike are left wondering: Who will emerge victorious in this high-stakes environment? With more opportunities for recognition and reward, the competition promises to be fiercer than ever.
