Exciting Finishes in December 3 Titled Tuesday Events: Lazavik and Nakamura Emerge Victorious

In a thrilling showdown on December 3, both Titled Tuesday events came down to the wire, with GM Denis Lazavik emerging ahead of GMs Javokhir Sindarov and Matthias Bluebaum in the early tournament, while GM Hikaru Nakamura secured the tiebreak over GM Alireza Firouzja in the late tournament.

In the early tournament, Lazavik and Sindarov led the field with a perfect 7/7 start before Lazavik briefly took the sole lead by defeating Nakamura. However, Lazavik’s draws in the last two rounds allowed Sindarov and Bluebaum to catch up, with the tiebreaks placing Lazavik first, Sindarov second, and Bluebaum third.

In the late tournament, Nakamura and Firouzja battled it out, with both players finishing with a perfect score of 10 points. Nakamura secured the tiebreak over Firouzja, with six players tying for third place. Nakamura’s win over Boyer in a tense middlegame was a highlight of the final rounds.

Nakamura’s first-place prize of $1,000 in the late tournament gave him a total of $1,100 for the day, while Firouzja settled for a $750 payday. In the Titled Cup standings, Nakamura extended his lead over Magnus Carlsen, while Goryachkina gained ground in the women’s standings.
