Chess.com Launches Live FIDE Ratings Feature: Stay Updated on Your Favorite Players!
In an exciting development for chess enthusiasts, Chess.com has unveiled a new feature that allows users to track live FIDE rating changes and ranking movements in real time. This innovative update promises to enhance the chess-watching experience, enabling fans to keep tabs on their favorite players and their performances as they unfold.
How to Access Live Ratings
To check live ratings, users can visit Chess.com/ratings (note that this feature is currently not available on mobile apps). But what exactly are live ratings? Traditionally, FIDE updates player ratings on the last day of each month, meaning that players maintain the same rating throughout the month, regardless of their performance in rated events. For instance, Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi recently showcased his skills at the TePe Sigeman Tournament, achieving four draws and three wins. Despite this impressive performance, his official rating of 2751 will remain unchanged until June 1.
However, Chess.com’s new feature allows fans to see how such performances impact ratings in real time. For example, Erigaisi’s stellar showing is projected to earn him an additional 10.4 rating points, propelling him from 11th to 8th place in the world rankings—at least for now. This dynamic feature will continue to update throughout the month as players compete in various rated events, providing a clearer picture of how official ratings may shift when FIDE releases its next list.
Track Player Activity and Recent Results
Curious about why a player’s rating is fluctuating? The new Ratings page offers detailed insights into players’ recent game results. By clicking on any player, users can view their latest matches, including tournament details, opponents, and game dates. The default view showcases recent games with classical time controls, but users can easily switch to other formats using a dropdown menu.
Moreover, fans can now see if a player is currently engaged in a rated game. A green “Watch” button will direct users to the ongoing match on the Events page, allowing them to follow the action live.
Filter by Category and Country
The new feature also includes filtering options, making it easier to keep up with live ratings for Women, Juniors, and Girls. Users can switch between categories using the dropdown menu at the top of the page. Additionally, filtering by specific countries allows fans to track players from their region, providing a more personalized experience.

What do you think of the new Ratings page? Chess.com invites users to share their thoughts in the comments section. This latest update not only enhances the chess community’s engagement but also brings fans closer to the action, making it easier than ever to follow the world of chess.
With this new feature, Chess.com continues to solidify its position as a leading platform for chess enthusiasts, providing tools that enhance the enjoyment and understanding of the game. So, whether you’re a casual viewer or a dedicated follower, be sure to check out the live ratings and stay connected with the world of chess!
