Praggnanandhaa on Monday following his groundbreaking triumph at the Norway Chess tournament. The Chief Minister presented the 20-year-old Grandmaster with a cash award of Rs 50 lakh and a commemorative memento, recognizing his historic achievement as the first Indian to clinch the prestigious Norway Chess title.

The ceremony, attended by senior government officials, sports authorities, and Praggnanandhaa’s proud parents, also featured a friendly chess match between the Chief Minister and the young chess prodigy, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Praggnanandhaa’s remarkable journey in Oslo was nothing short of extraordinary. Despite a rocky start that saw him languishing at the bottom of the standings after six rounds, the young Grandmaster demonstrated exceptional resilience. He rebounded with an impressive four consecutive victories, including two stunning wins over World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and a critical triumph against reigning World Champion D. Gukesh. This remarkable comeback marked the first four-game winning streak in the tournament since Carlsen achieved the feat in 2021.
