Exciting Partnership Announced: Chess.com to Host 2025 Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour!
Chess.com has just announced an exciting new partnership with Freestyle Chess to support the upcoming 2025 Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour. This collaboration will bring live coverage of the Tour to Chess.com members, with the first qualifier set to begin on January 4.
Earlier this year, Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen and German entrepreneur Jan-Henric Buettner revealed their plans for the ambitious Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour. This tour will feature five extravagant events across five continents, with a prize fund exceeding $4 million.
To kick off the Grand Slam Tour, the first event will take place in Weissenhaus, Germany, from February 7-14. Subsequent events will be held in Paris, France; New York, USA; Delhi, India; and Cape Town, South Africa throughout the year.
The lineup for the first event includes top players such as Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, and more. Additionally, the winner of the online Freestyle Chess Play-In Weissenhaus event on Chess.com will secure the final spot in the tournament.
Each event in the 2025 Grand Slam Tour will follow the successful format of the 2024 Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge, with players competing in a round-robin before moving on to a single-elimination knockout.
Chess.com’s Chief Creative Officer, Danny Rensch, expressed excitement about the partnership with Freestyle Chess, calling the format a fresh and exciting way to revolutionize competitive chess.
With Magnus Carlsen emerging as the champion of the previous Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge, the question now remains: can anyone challenge the Tour’s co-founder in the upcoming events?
Chess enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the start of the 2025 Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour and are invited to share their predictions for the first event in the comment section below. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling collaboration between Chess.com and Freestyle Chess.
