Mumbai Minister Chhagan Bhujbal Dismisses Rajya Sabha Speculation with Humor

Mumbai, Maharashtra — In a light-hearted response to rumors surrounding his absence from the upcoming Rajya Sabha nominations, Maharashtra Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal addressed the media on Monday, asserting, “I am a kabaddi player, not a chess player.”

Bhujbal, who was considered a frontrunner for the Rajya Sabha bypoll on June 18 following the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, expressed optimism about future opportunities. The NCP has since nominated Rajendra Jain for the vacant seat.

“I want to go to the Rajya Sabha. I want to go to the Lok Sabha as well. Opportunities came four or five times, but nothing came my way,” Bhujbal stated, emphasizing his desire for a parliamentary role after decades of public service.

The seasoned politician pointed out the prevalence of political families holding multiple positions in government, suggesting that he too deserves a similar chance. “My son, Sameer Bhujbal, can be made a minister, and I can go to the Rajya Sabha,” he remarked, advocating for what he termed “fair opportunities” in politics.

Bhujbal revealed that discussions had taken place with BJP leadership regarding his aspirations, although he noted the tight timeline before the Rajya Sabha elections. He dismissed claims that the BJP had rejected his proposal, stating, “There is no truth in reports that the BJP rejected the proposal. Am I upset? No. Why should I be upset?”

The minister reiterated his belief in justice, asserting, “If not today, then tomorrow; if not tomorrow, then the day after.”

In a humorous twist, Bhujbal concluded his remarks by reiterating his playful analogy, reinforcing that he views himself as a dynamic player in the political arena, ready to seize opportunities as they arise.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Bhujbal’s candid remarks highlight the ongoing discussions and aspirations within Maharashtra’s political sphere.
