“GM Pia Cramling and IM Levy Rozman Draw by Repetition in Battle of Generations”

GM Pia Cramling and IM Levy Rozman (GothamChess) drew by repetition in the second classical game of the Battle of Generations, in a game that lasted only 14 moves. The unexpected draw came as both players anticipated the other to deviate from the repetition, but neither did, resulting in a quick end to the game.

Cramling, who had won with the black pieces in the previous game, continues to lead the match by three points. The third classical game is set to take place on Wednesday, October 30, starting at 10 a.m. ET / 15:00 CET / 7:30 p.m. IST.

After the draw, Rozman shared that he was content with the outcome given his recent poor performance in a tournament and lack of sleep due to noisy surroundings. He expressed relief at avoiding a potential loss and breaking his losing streak.

Both players acknowledged the difficulty of preparing for each other, with Cramling praising Rozman’s wide opening repertoire and Rozman admiring Cramling’s past victories against chess legends. Despite their different approaches in the game, both players expressed a desire to continue playing rather than settling for a draw.

The Battle of Generations features multiple time controls, including classical, rapid, and blitz games, with a prize fund of $10,000. The match is being held at the Svarta Hasten in Stockholm, Sweden, with the winner set to receive $6,000. With 20 more games to go, the competition between Cramling and Rozman promises to be exciting and unpredictable.
