DreamHack has evolved from a local gathering into the world’s largest digital festival, attracting a legion of fans each year. Since 2025, it has also become a vital bridge between the realms of chess and esports. Last year, the Dallas festival served as a qualifying event for the EWC Last Chance Qualifier, where Grandmaster Oleksandr Bortnyk emerged victorious among 62 competitors, earning a trip to Riyadh alongside fellow finalists GM Alexey Sarana, GM Aravindh Chithambaram, and GM Andrew Tang.
This year, DreamHack Atlanta promises to be even more exhilarating, with four coveted spots at the EWC up for grabs. The chess competition will feature eight qualifiers leading into a knockout final. Each qualifier will consist of a seven-round Swiss format, with the top two players advancing to the final. The winner of each Swiss round will enter the Upper Bracket, while the second-place finisher will head to the Lower Bracket. The final will be a double-elimination showdown, with a time control of 10+0 throughout the event.
As the EWC approaches, time is running out for players eager to secure their place in Riyadh. With most qualification spots already filled through the Speed Chess Championship, Chess.com Open, and Champions Chess Tour, DreamHack Atlanta stands out as a pivotal opportunity for those still in pursuit of an EWC spot.
