GM Expands In-Car Entertainment with Over 200 New Android Automotive Apps for a Fun Summer Drive

GM Expands Entertainment Options with Over 200 New Apps for Google Built-In Vehicles

In a significant upgrade for tech-savvy drivers, General Motors (GM) has announced that its vehicles equipped with Google built-in technology will now support over 200 additional Android Automotive apps. This enhancement promises to transform the in-car experience, particularly for passengers, as it allows access to a wide array of entertainment options on both front and rear screens.

Unlike most vehicles on the road today, GM’s newer models are designed to operate solely on their built-in infotainment systems, having phased out support for Android Auto and CarPlay. This strategic move aims to streamline the user experience, relying entirely on the capabilities of Android Automotive.

With the latest software updates, GM vehicles can now unlock a treasure trove of apps from Google Play, including popular streaming services like YouTube, Disney+, and Hulu. This means that whether parked or cruising, drivers and passengers can enjoy a plethora of movies, shows, and music right from their vehicle’s screens.

A New Era of In-Car Entertainment

The new features are particularly exciting for families and groups traveling together. GM’s SUVs, including the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, Cadillac Escalade series, and GMC Yukon models from 2025 and newer, will allow rear-seat passengers to access their own entertainment options. This capability ensures that everyone can enjoy personalized content, from binge-watching the latest series to listening to their favorite podcasts.

“Summer road trip season is here, and every mile just got a lot more fun in a GM vehicle,” the company stated in a press release. With OnStar connectivity and the latest software updates, the vehicles are equipped to deliver a massive catalog of entertainment, making long drives more enjoyable.

Streaming Services and More

The newly available apps include not only streaming services but also interactive games and educational content. While video streaming will be accessible on the main screen when parked, select vehicles will soon allow backseat passengers to enjoy these apps as well.

As GM continues to enhance its offerings, the company has indicated that additional services like Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, and Spotify will be integrated into the system in the near future.

Availability and Future Updates

The rollout of these new apps has already begun for model year 2024 and newer Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles equipped with Google built-in. As the updates reach individual vehicles, users will find a new “car compatible apps” section on Google Play, making it easy to explore and download the latest offerings.

With the automotive landscape rapidly evolving, GM’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into its vehicles is clear. As the company continues to innovate, drivers can look forward to a future where their vehicles are not just modes of transportation but also hubs of entertainment and connectivity.

For those planning summer road trips, GM’s latest enhancements promise to make every journey a memorable one.
