Guam Chess Federation Hosts Tournaments at Micronesia Mall
The Guam Chess Federation is bringing the excitement of chess to the Micronesia Mall with their ongoing tournaments that are drawing players of all ages and skill levels. This Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Federation will be hosting the Liberation Day Blitz Chess Tournament starting at 11 a.m. in the Micronesia Mall Center Court.
The tournament will feature a 9-round Swiss system competition with a 10-minute time control, providing a thrilling challenge for all participants. Almer Santos, president of the Guam Chess Federation, highlights the inclusive nature of the tournaments, emphasizing that chess is a game that brings people together regardless of age or background.
With tournaments scheduled every Sunday in July, the Guam Chess Federation is dedicated to promoting the cognitive and social benefits of chess. As Santos puts it, “Chess is everything: art, science, and sport.” The Federation is also gearing up for championship events in the coming months to prepare Guam players for off-island competitions.
