Samarkand, Uzbekistan – India’s chess prowess is set to shine once again as a formidable contingent, led by world champion D Gukesh, rising star R Praggnanandhaa, and the historic FIDE Women’s Candidates winner R Vaishali, prepares to defend their titles at the FIDE Chess Olympiad from September 16 to 27. Both the men’s and women’s teams are the reigning champions, having clinched their respective titles in a historic 2024 showdown.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The Indian Open team boasts an impressive roster, featuring Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and the talented Arjun Erigaisi, alongside the newly added Nihal Sarin and seasoned player Vidit Gujrathi. Sarin’s inclusion marks a fresh dynamic for the team, which aims to replicate its previous success.

On the women’s side, the team is equally formidable, comprising chess legends like Koneru Humpy, Vaishali, World Cup winner Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, and Savitha Shri B.
