Iniyan Pa Clinches Title at 6th La Plagne Open International Chess Tournament with Unbeaten Performance

Indian Grandmaster Iniyan Pa Claims Victory at La Plagne Open

La Plagne, France – Indian Grandmaster Iniyan Pa showcased his exceptional skill and strategic prowess, finishing unbeaten at the prestigious 6th La Plagne Open International Chess Tournament. The 23-year-old chess prodigy emerged as the clear champion, securing his fourth title of the year with an impressive performance that included six wins and three draws.

The tournament, which concluded on Friday, attracted 142 players from 20 countries, featuring 13 Grandmasters and 22 International Masters. Iniyan’s remarkable journey through the nine-round event saw him accumulate 7.5 points, solidifying his status as a formidable competitor on the international chess scene.

A Journey to Victory

Iniyan’s path to victory began with a first-round walkover, followed by a draw in the second round. However, he quickly found his rhythm, achieving two consecutive wins that set the tone for the remainder of the tournament. After another draw in Round 5, he surged ahead with three successive victories, including key matches against GM Luca Moroni of Italy and IM Danyil Mosesov of Ukraine, both of whom were strong contenders in the tournament.

Entering the final round with a one-point lead, Iniyan only needed a draw to secure the championship. He achieved this with ease, drawing his last game against fellow Indian IM Aronyak Ghosh, thereby clinching the title outright.

Celebrating Success

This victory not only marks Iniyan Pa’s fourth tournament title this year but also his second classical chess title of 2026. His consistent performance has made him a player to watch in the chess world, and his triumph at La Plagne further cements his reputation as one of India’s rising stars in the sport.

Aronyak Ghosh and Diptayan Ghosh finished joint third, each scoring 6.5 points, showcasing the depth of talent among Indian players in the tournament.

As Iniyan Pa continues to make waves in the chess community, his recent success serves as an inspiration for aspiring chess players across India and beyond. With his sights set on future competitions, the chess world eagerly anticipates what this young Grandmaster will achieve next.
