Indian Women’s Chess Team Continues Unbeaten Streak at 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest

The Indian women’s chess team continued their impressive run at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest with a thumping 3-1 victory over Georgia. Grandmasters R Vaishali and Vantika Agrawal led the charge with splendid performances, defeating Lela Javakhishvili and Bella Khotenashvili, respectively.

The Indian women have now won all seven rounds of the competition, showcasing their dominance in the tournament. Vaishali and Vantika’s victories were crucial in securing the team’s seventh straight win, taking their tally to an impressive 14 points out of a possible 14.

In the open section, the Indian men’s team faced tough competition, with World Championship finalist D Gukesh still trying to win a drawn endgame against Wei Yi of China. Speculation arose about a possible clash between Gukesh and Ding Liren, the two contestants in the next World Championship, but the Chinese team decided to rest the reigning world champion, surprising many in the chess community.

Despite some intense games, the Indian men’s team managed to secure draws on the last three boards. R Praggnanandhaa played out a quick draw against Yangyi Yu of China, while P Harikrishna pressed for a win before the game ended in a draw.

Overall, the Indian contingent put up a strong performance at the Chess Olympiad, with both the men’s and women’s teams showcasing their skills on the international stage. The women’s team, in particular, has been in top form, maintaining their unbeaten streak and establishing themselves as strong contenders in the competition.
