Inauguration of Inter-University Chess Competition 2025-2026 at KUET: A Platform for Intellectual Growth and Collaboration
Inter-University Chess Competition Kicks Off at KUET
Khulna, Bangladesh — The vibrant atmosphere of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) was palpable today as the inter-university chess competition for the 2025-2026 academic year officially commenced. The event, organized by the Directorate of Student Welfare (DSW), attracted participants from 19 universities across the nation, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and intellectual challenge.
The competition was inaugurated by KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud, who served as the chief guest at the colorful opening ceremony. Presiding over the event, Professor Dr. Md Hasan Ali, director of student welfare, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting student engagement and interaction.
In his address, Professor Masud highlighted chess as more than just a game; he described it as a vital tool for developing essential skills such as analytical thinking, patience, foresight, and strategic planning. “In today’s competitive world, students require not only textbook knowledge but also creativity and problem-solving abilities,” he stated, underscoring chess’s role in nurturing these qualities.
The Vice-Chancellor further noted that events like the inter-university chess competition encourage healthy competition, mutual understanding, and leadership among students. He expressed hope that such platforms would facilitate the exchange of knowledge, culture, and experiences among participants from diverse backgrounds.
The welcome speech was delivered by Md Mahmudul Alam, acting deputy director of the DSW and chairman of the sports management committee. Other notable speakers included Rajan Kumar Raha, deputy director of the DSW, Professor Dr. Md Abdullah Elias Akter, provost of Khanjahan Ali Hall, and Md Mahbubul Alam, member-secretary of the Bangladesh Inter-University Sports Association.
Participating universities include KUET, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), University of Dhaka, University of Rajshahi, University of Chattogram, Jahangirnagar University, Islamic University, Khulna University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, and several other public institutions.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by players, faculty, officials, students, and invited guests, all eager to witness the strategic battles that lie ahead. As the competition unfolds, it promises to be a showcase of intellect and sportsmanship, embodying the spirit of unity and collaboration among Bangladesh’s academic institutions.
