2024 K-12 Grade Championships: A Weekend of Chess Excitement in National Harbor, Maryland

The 2024 K-12 Grade Championships in National Harbor, Maryland, are set to make history this weekend with over 2,700 players across 13 sections participating. This event is the largest in history, and the lineup of activities is sure to excite all chess enthusiasts.

From bughouse to blitz, ChessKid, and a guest GM, there will be something for everyone at the championships. Some of America’s best scholastic players will be competing for national titles, including IMs Eric Chang Liu, Ming Lu, Evan Park, and Liran Zhou, as well as FMs Erick Zhao and Isaac Wang, among others.

For parents and friends, the “Skittles Room” in Prince George’s Exhibit AB will be the place to be, offering a chess player’s paradise with the Chess Store, K-12 T-shirts, and the “POW! Capturing Superheroes, Chess, and Comics!” exhibit from the World Chess Hall of Fame and the U.S. Chess Trust.

Girls and their families can visit the Girls Club in Chesapeake 1-3, where GM Irina Krush will be the special guest. The Girls Club will be open throughout the weekend, offering a variety of activities for all to enjoy.

The event schedule includes a range of tournaments, exhibitions, and seminars for players of all levels. From the Bughouse Tournament to the ChessKid Problem Solving Tournament, there will be plenty of opportunities to test your skills and learn from top players.

For those unable to attend in person, the championships will be live-streamed on the US Chess Twitch channel, providing coverage of the top boards and exciting gameplay throughout the weekend.
