Raven Chapman, the 32-year-old British boxer, is on the road to recovery after undergoing emergency brain surgery following a life-threatening injury sustained during a sparring session in Denmark. The incident occurred on July 24, when Chapman collapsed post-training and was swiftly airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Medical examinations revealed that she had suffered a brain haematoma—bleeding inside the brain—along with cerebral oedema, a condition characterized by dangerous swelling. Doctors acted quickly, performing emergency surgery to halt the bleeding and alleviate the swelling. Following the operation, Chapman was placed in an induced coma to provide her brain with the best chance of recovery while minimizing further complications.
In a recent update, her medical team announced that they have begun to reduce the sedation medication, indicating a positive step in her recovery journey. Although her condition remains serious, she is receiving intensive care and is making gradual progress. Plans are now in motion for her medically supervised transfer back to the UK, where she will continue her rehabilitation.
