Creative Greensboro Welcomes Subbora Jackson for an Intergalactic Art Experience
Greensboro, NC – This summer, Creative Greensboro is set to launch an imaginative residency featuring multi-disciplinary artist Subbora Jackson, titled “The Intergalactic Chess Café and Art Experience.” Running from July 7 to August 17, this unique program invites visitors of all ages to engage in a fusion of chess, visual art, live theater, and collaborative storytelling.
The residency kicks off with a free public reception on Thursday, July 9, and will culminate in a community celebration on Monday, August 17. Throughout the residency, participants can explore creative strategies and community connections through a variety of immersive experiences, regardless of their prior chess knowledge.
Free Programming Highlights:
- Community Chess Nights: Every Friday from 5-9 PM, families can enjoy themed game nights, including a Family Starfleet Game Night on July 10 and a Cosmic Couples Game Night on July 17.
- Chess Workshops: Held on Thursdays from 6-9 PM, these workshops will cover topics like beginner chess lessons and collaborative art projects.
Ticketed Events:
- Galactic Chessboard Builders Workshop Series: On Tuesdays, participants can design and create their own artistic chessboards.
- Theatre of the Cosmic Kingdoms: A live theatrical experience on Sundays where audience members become part of the story, featuring costumed characters and interactive performances.
Jackson, a Washington, D.C. native, has a rich background in interactive art and has produced over 900 original works. Known for her engaging workshops, she aims to inspire creativity in participants of all ages.
