The 2024 Grand Chess Tour (GCT) is currently underway at the Saint Louis Chess Club (SLCC), with the penultimate leg featuring three days of rapid chess followed by blitz games. As the competition heats up, three players are tied for the lead with 11/18 scores after the rapid games.

French GMs Alireza Firouzja and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, along with Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, are leading the pack, closely followed by American GM Levon Aronian. A trio of American GMs Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura, and Leinier Dominguez are not far behind, with Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov and American GM Fabiano Caruana also in the mix.

The tournament has seen intense match-ups and exciting games, with players showcasing their skills and strategies in rapid chess. The competition has also highlighted the pressure and drama of time scrambles, adding to the excitement for spectators.

The winner of the event will take home a prize of $40,000, with second place earning $30,000. The Sinquefield Cup, which concludes the 2024 GCT, will begin on August 19 with a lineup of top players ready to compete for the prestigious title.
