Four-Year-Old Elena Mishra Shines as Youngest Participant in U-7 National Chess Championship

Nagpur – In a remarkable display of talent and determination, four-year-old Elena Mishra has captured the hearts of chess enthusiasts as the youngest participant in the ongoing U-7 National Chess Championship at the GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology. The tournament, held at Shraddha Park, Wadi-Hingna Link Road, has seen thrilling matches and unexpected upsets, making it a memorable event for players and spectators alike.

On Thursday, the championship witnessed a day of fluctuating fortunes, particularly in the girls’ group, where top-seeded players faced their first defeats. In a stunning turn of events, Punjab’s unrated Myra Rathore shocked the chess community by defeating the top-seeded Udhriti Bhattacharya in the fifth round. Myra’s strategic prowess shone through as she capitalized on her opening advantage, marking a significant upset in the tournament.

However, Udhriti showcased her resilience in the evening session, bouncing back to secure a victory against Rihanshi Munagala, while Myra’s winning streak came to an end at the hands of third-seeded Aaditri Majumdar. Aaditri’s victory allowed her to share the lead with Liyaa Krishnan, who also triumphed over Rayanika Shivaram in a fierce match.

As the tournament progresses, the competition remains fierce, with two players in both the open and girls’ groups sharing the lead at the end of the sixth round. In the open group, Bihar’s sixth-seeded Rudra Pratap and Andhra Pradesh’s Joshua Katarapu continue their winning momentum, both boasting six points. Meanwhile, three boys and nine girls are closely trailing the leaders, setting the stage for an exciting finish.

Elena Mishra, despite her young age, has become a symbol of hope and inspiration for budding chess players. Her participation in the championship highlights the growing interest in chess among children and the potential for future stars in the game.

As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on the young prodigies, including Elena, as they navigate the complexities of chess and strive for victory. The U-7 National Chess Championship promises to deliver more surprises and thrilling matches in the days to come.
