U-7 National Chess Championship: Top Seed Udhriti Bhattacharya Shines Amidst Unrated Prodigies
Nagpur – The second day of the U-7 National Chess Championship unfolded with excitement and surprises, as unrated players stole the spotlight with remarkable performances. While the top seeds maintained their winning streak, several underdogs showcased their talent, making the competition fiercer than ever.
In the open section, the top two seeds, including Karnataka’s Shivansh Gowda and Gujarat’s Naksh Somani, continued their dominance, each securing four victories out of four rounds. However, it was Tamil Nadu’s Kridhay A who delivered the biggest upset of the day, defeating Maharashtra’s fifth seed Aksh Shrivastava in a thrilling match that left spectators on the edge of their seats. Kridhay’s strategic defense with the black pieces proved pivotal, showcasing his potential as a rising star in the chess world.
Shivansh Gowda also made headlines by outmaneuvering eighth-seeded Ivaan Dubey, utilizing his opening advantage to secure a decisive victory. The open section now sees 12 players sharing the lead, each with four points, setting the stage for an intense battle in the upcoming rounds.
In the girls’ group, top seed Udhriti Bhattacharya continued her impressive run, defeating Aahi Meshram to maintain her perfect record. She is joined at the top by Punjab’s Myra Rathore, who stunned Tamil Nadu’s Navya R, and Goa’s Sreeja Ghanekar, who surprised Assam’s Dia Baisnab.
