2024-2025 Scholastic Regulations Updates and Changes

The Scholastic Council and the Executive Board have recently approved the 2024-2025 Scholastic Regulations, bringing about several significant changes for the upcoming year. One major change includes reducing the “No-Show” or “Forfeit” time for late arrival at the K-12 Grade Nationals and SuperNationals to just 30 minutes, down from the previous 60 minutes.

Additionally, start times for each round in the K-12, K-8, and K-6 events at SuperNationals will now be published separately in pre-tournament publicity. The Elementary School National Championships at the SuperNationals have also undergone a revamp, with all K-5 Under sections being replaced with new K-6 Under sections.

For the High School National Championships at SuperNationals, the Blitz tournament will now feature two sections: K-12 Championship and K-12 Under 1800. Other changes include updates to procedures for Section Change Requests, guidelines for scheduling national scholastic events, and rules on electronic devices.

US Chess now supports the use of “air tags” for children, with updated rules in place to reflect this technology. The rules for Blitz events and Bughouse have also been revised to accommodate changes in time control and player conduct.

Overall, these new regulations aim to enhance the scholastic chess experience and ensure fair play for all participants. For more information or questions about the regulations, individuals can contact Boyd Reed, Director of Events.
